Starting with the fundamentals of leadership\, the series then follows the lifecycle of an employee from hiring through performance management\, or progressive discipline and termination. Each module is a practical workshop\, allowing participants to actively apply their new skills and knowledge in a variety of situations. \nModules are also available for individual registration. See events calendar for registration links.\nMODULE 1 Building Blocks - April 21 & 28When you step into a leadership role\, you inherit a great deal of responsibility which includes obligations to your colleagues and your customers. It is important that you understand the role. Although many of the parameters will be set by your organization\, this session will cover the fundamental skills and qualities of great leaders. We will also explain the broader legal rights and responsibilities of employers and supervisors in Manitoba. MODULE 2 Square Pegs\, Round Holes - May 12 & 19Before hiring\, it is important to evaluate your overall needs. Hiring the right people may not get you the results you want if you are not hiring them for the right job. In this session\, we focus on job analysis and design from evaluating processes to aligning key skill sets. We will also look at setting key performance targets and measurements\, compensation structures and other things to consider before you hire. \nMODULE 3 Starting Line - June 2 & 9Recruiting can be challenging and time consuming\, particularly if you are regularly filling the same positions. In this session\, we will investigate ways of improving your recruitment and retention strategies. You will learn how to develop effective interview guidelines and conduct efficient interviews. We will also explore avenues for recruitment from a diverse pool of candidates. \nMODULE 4 Raising the Bar - June 23 & 30Once you have hired an individual\, it is important to give them the tools they need to succeed and grow. This session will highlight valuable performance management techniques and tips\, effective feedback models and how to coach\, motivate and engage employees. We will examine ways to measure employee satisfaction and discuss recognition and reward programs that work. We will also look at the importance of maintaining employee records. \nMODULE 5 Ahead of the Curve - July 14 & 21Every leader must deal with the occasional curveball. The best leaders handle them with compassion\, poise and confidence. This session will help you learn to lead in complex situations. We will focus on practical solutions for resolving conflict\, managing change and leading difficult conversations. You will also learn appropriate practices and policies for progressive discipline and termination. \n\nNormally facilitated in person in full-day modules\, we have restructured the course for virtual delivery.
