Overview: What does Validation mean? Validation is done before or when a process or control is designed or changed, and it answers the question “Will this control work to keep food safe?
”What does Verification mean? Verification is done after the system is in place, and it answers the question “Are we actually doing what we said, and is it still working as intended?”
Together, they form a core part of HACCP and preventive controls programs and are expected by regulations such as FSMA and food safety standards like BRCGS and SQF. When done well, they reduce the risk of contamination, help avoid recalls, and demonstrate due diligence to regulators, customers, and certification bodies.
